Rules
Section 1.01 USA HOCKEY
(a) USA Hockey rules will apply to all games unless otherwise stated.
Section 1.02 MID WEST AMATEUR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION (MWAHA)
(a) Mid West Amateur Hockey Association rules apply.
Section 1.03 AGE POLICY
(a) No player under the age of 18 is permitted.
Section 1.04 EQUIPMENT
(a) All participants must have an HECC approved protective helmet on at all times while on the ice surface and , whether or not play is under way.
(b) Minimum equipment requirements include helmet, shin/knee and elbow pads.
(c) Full ice hockey equipment is strongly recommended, especially face masks.
(d) Teams will wear matching jerseys and socks at all games.
Section 1.05 NON-CHECKING
(a) The WAHA will be a non-checking League.
(b) Non-(see Glossary in USA Hockey Official Rules) within the rules in non-checking classifications. Legal body contact shall not be penalized under this rule. However, deliberate physical contact with an opponent, with no effort to legally play the puck, shall be penalized.
Section 1.06 NO TOLERANCE POLICY
(a) Fighting and Intent to injure penalties will result in an automatic ejection from the game and suspension from future games. Refer to the USA Hockey Official Rules for length of suspensions.
(b) Directors will convene review board of Committee Members.
(c) Directors will inform Team Captains and offending player of outcome.
(d) Player may appeal suspensions by contacting the Director or Committee.
Section 1.07 ROSTERS & TEAMS
(a) Players are required to register with WAHA and accept the Terms of Registration.
(b) Players are required to register with USA Hockey.
(c) Regular season team roster size will be a minimum of 12 and maximum of 15.
(d) Substitute players are allowed during regular season games provided they are registered with WAHA & USA Hockey and on a current team or the league "Free Agent" list.
(e) Each team will designate a Captain and Alternate, one of which must be present at each game and attend all required WAHA Committee Meetings.
(f) Team Captain and/or Alternate will be authorized to act as the sole agent of the team for all purposes relating to WAHA activities.
(g) Remaining spots will be filled through the draft.
(h) Goalies will NOT be attached to teams and are scheduled on a rotating basis.
(i) WAHA will be the sole authority as to what team players will be permitted to join and every attempt will be made to have a competitive and fair league. The blind draft is designed to balance out rosters, in regard to skill level only, and ensure parity across the league.
Section 1.08 GAMES
(a) Game rosters will be submitted to the Referee prior to the scheduled game time and clearly designate a Captain.
(b) Warm up will be six minutes and start at scheduled game time.
(c) Three twenty minute periods.
(d) Running clock.
(e) Two minute break between periods.
(f) No overtime period for regular season tie games.
Section 1.09 FORFEITS
(a) Any team unable to reach a six player game roster prior to the scheduled game time will forfeit.
(b) A forfeit will be reported to the WAHA Director by the Referee.
(c) The WAHA Director will convene the Committee and require the team Captain presence to discuss future avoidance of additional forfeits. A mutually agreed solution will be reached. Subsequent forfeits will result in escalated intervention.

(a) Points will be assigned for all completed games as follows; 2 points for a win; 1 point for a tie; 0 points for a loss. Forfeits are considered a 1-0 loss.
Section 1.11 CODE OF CONDUCT
(a) All participants and staff will conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner which will reflect favorably upon the WAHA.
(b) Shall never participate in any WAHA on ice program or activity while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating substances.
(c) All participants and staff will comply with the policies and rules of Young Arena or any other facility that may be used for official WAHA activities.

FAQ
Where are games played?
All games are played at Young Arena, 125 Commercial St., Waterloo, IA 50701.
What are the player requirements?
Players must be 19 years old or older. Players must be registered with USA Hockey for the calendar year.
Can I register for the WAHA individually?
Yes. Individual registration is encouraged and you will be placed on a team! After an individual has registered, your name will be placed into the free agent list where the teams will draft from.
Can I register a team?
Yes. Team registration is intended for groups of friends who want to play on the same team. Team registration is limited to 6 players. The rest of the team will be made up of individual registrations and aquired through the draft.
What equipment is required by the League?
Minimum required equipment: helmet, breezers (pants), shin pads, elbow pads, gloves, skates, and stick. All teams must wear matching jerseys. We highly recommend players wear face shields.
Is fighting or rough play allowed?
No. This is non-checking league. Fighting is strictly prohibited. Penalties will be assessed for rough play. Players that receive excessive penalty minutes for rough play or who fight will be suspended. We promote a safe environment for adults to play hockey and do not condone rough play.
When and where can I find the schedule?
The schedule is released a week before league play begins and will be posted on Facebook and distributed electronically.
What are the roster limits?
Teams will consist of a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 15. Goalies are NOT attached to teams or rosters.
